 ROTAK 40 JUST BLEW UP!, 2010-09-02
Well, I read all the favourable reviews and bought one through Amazon in June 2009, replacing a Flymo 330 hover mower. All was going well until this evening - when for no apparent reason the motor ground to a halt, smoke appeared briefly and a dreadful burning smell. Allowed it to cool, several times, thinking that the Motor Protection gadget may have done its job, but just a whirring sound then silence when I tried to start it again. The motor is obviously kaput.
I have enjoyed using the Rotak, particularly for its light weight and good cutting performance. I have kept it clean and adjusted the height according to the height of the grass - generally I have it set on 3 but use 4.5 if the grass is a bit longer. The ventilation bit at the front has always been kept clear.
I will contact Bosch in the morning but unless I get a satisfactory solution I shall be buying another make. I will update this review when I know the outcome.

Very good product for me. Bit heavy but I am over 55 and can manage it well. Grass box a bit small but would buy it again.

My husband finally blew up his old mower and I bought this as an upgraded replacement. He likes the fact that it is so quick to do both of our lawns due to the increased size of the roller, the large grass box and the larger motor. The strength of the motor means he doesn't have to keep stopping to clean the blades, it just cuts straight through. Our medium size rear garden and small front garden only needs the box emptying once.
My husband said he wished he had had this one years ago as he has wasted so much time with the old one and made it such a hard job to do. Now, he actually enjoys doing the lawn as it is done quickly leaving a lovely trim lawn that looks like he has spent a long time on it.
Would definately recommend this lawn mower we haven't found any fault with it.

Firstly the service from Amazon was excellent.It was not only the lowest price in the UK but was delivered much more quickly than expected.The Bosch mower is superb and even though it is a rotary still leaves a cylinder mower finish.
