Black and Decker make wonderful toys, 2010-08-31
The Black and Decker cordless compact chain saw is great, no more waiting for my son with his petrol chain saw, it is so light and easy to use my 84 year old step dad uses it regularly.

Have to say was pleased that this is actually better than I expected - I only wanted a small, light chainsaw of occasional trimming and cutting - for this it is perfect. Far less messing and cleaner than a petrol chainsaw and no cable like a mains powered one.
Some people have mentioned battery life - if you are realistic it is probably fine - you want to do quite a bit of trimming, cutting - no problem - but if you have got 2 tons of wood to cut in one go - then it probably is not what you are looking for! It comes with a single battery and the charger is one of the standard (fairly dumb) 8 hour charger instead of one of the fast 1-2 hour chargers - but for the price I suppose that is to be expected.
However, here's a solution I found - if you may need a drill consider the 'Black & Decker HP188F4BK 18V Hammer Drill' - it comes with 2 x 18v batteries and the faster / smart charger. The batteries are interchangeable so that way you would have a total of 3 batteries (3 times the cutting time!) and a smart charger (plus the drill of course which is good as well). For the current selling price it's a great option as two of the 18v batteries on their own are about the same price as the drill, batteries and charger package - so you effectively get the drill and smart charger for free.
Overall would certainly recommend.
Poor battery Life, 2010-06-02
The cutting performance was about what I expected for a cordless chainsaw so no complaints there. I just wish I had read some of the reviews relating to the battery life before purchasing. I charged the battery each time for at least 10 hours and even after a few recharges the battery still only performed for 5 or 6 minuites of more or less continuous use. I had a fairly large pile of logs to saw which took a little over an hour. Problem is at 5 to 6 minuites battery use each day, it took me almost 2 weeks to complete the job.

I was apprehensive about purchasing a chain saw but feel pleased that I did.
What I like is the fact its lightweight and easy to manage once on a ladder.
The only major aspect that I found hard to get to grips with was assembling the chain to start with. It took what seemed for ever to get the tension correct and in the correct position. Now that I know how to do this I am sure it wont take so long. Without the correct tension you will never get the benefit of a chain saw. Its important that you check the tension after every cut in my opinion.
Also, beware that you keep don't over feel the oil reservoir. Also, ensure you place, or store in the horizontal position as I found that if you did not do this the oil leaked.
Its easy to clean .
Overall I am pleased with my purchase.
